Postcard from Sitges

Sitges remains one of the quintessential Spanish, and for that matter, European gay Summer destination.

It is easy to reach from Barcelona either on a day trip or for a longer stay.

Sitges has kept its small town charm and the few bigger hotels are really not that big and do not ruin the feeling. Given the relatively limited amount of hotel rooms, Sitges never feels overrun and is nicely laid back, especially during the week.
Gay people mix effortlessly in this small town with the locals and straight vacationers.

After spending your day at one of the three gay beaches (two of which being clothing optional), you’ll have plenty of venues to mix and mingle (if you have not fallen prey to Growlr, grindr and the likes). But the pattern is pretty set: late afternoon to early evening will have the boys check out each other on the Parrots terrace. After diner, people will return and chat in front of El horno until about one am. At that point, it’s off to the different bars. And if you are still not satisfied, you can check out the beach in front of Prat de la Riba street for some late night cruising.

I recommend Sitges for couples who would like to relax in a gay friendly town or singles that have no trouble making new friends. Also, be aware that Sitges is not especially cheap, but of course, as with all holidays, it’s really up to you.
